The Challenge

In May 2009, Firefighters Lee Peyton and Garry Mackay headed out to the Outer Hebrides to complete a 300 mile human-powered journey from the south of the island chain to the most northerly tip, the Butt of Lewis.

En-route they:

  •  visited all 15 inhabited islands,
  •  kayaked between them,
  •  cycled across all of them,
  •  ran to the top of the highest hill on each island,
  •  complete the route in 57 hours and 10 mintes
  •  and are well on the way to raising £25,000 for CLIC Sargent (Registered Charity No: SC039857).

In total this involved over 250 miles of cycling; around 20 miles kayaking (in some of the most challenging tidal waters around the United Kingdom) and ascending around 4000m in height whilst covering approximately 30 miles, on foot.

Why?

CLIC Sargent is the UK's leading children's cancer charity.

It is a national charity committed to providing care every step of the way to children and young people diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia and their families. (click on the "CLIC Sargent" link on the navigation bar).
