@300miles for CLIC Sargent
Two Edinburgh firefighters have spent the last year fundraising for CLIC Sargent (Registered Charity No: SC039857), Scotland's leading children's cancer charity, which is a national charity committed to providing care, every step of the way to children and young people diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia and their families.
On Thursday 10th September 2009 Edinburgh Twestival Local (a charity event arranged through the social media network Twitter by Twitterers for Tweeters) raised the amazing amount of £3,300.25 for CLIC Sargent and @300miles; this boosting Lee Peyton and Garry Mackay's fundraising total to just shy of £15,500 (including gift aid). Although Lee and Garry have completed their 300 mile journey, in 57 hours 10 minutes, fundraising continues. You can help by donating at their justgiving page.
What they've just done...
In May 2009, Lee and Garry headed out to the Outer Hebrides to complete a 300 mile human-powered journey from the south of the island chain to the most northerly tip, the Butt of Lewis.
En-route they:
- visited all 15 inhabited islands,
- kayaked between them,
- cycled across all of them,
- ran to the top of the highest hill on each island,
- completed the route in 57 hours and 10 mintes
- and are half way to raising £25,000 for CLIC Sargent.
In total this involved over 250 miles of cycling; around 20 miles kayaking (in some of the most challenging tidal waters around the United Kingdom) and ascending around 4000m in height whilst covering approximately 30 miles, on foot.
